highbridge5 Posted June 2, 2010 #3 Share Posted June 2, 2010 Has anyone ever tried the Hasbro brand ChatNow walkie talkies on a cruise? If you go to a wholesale grocery warehouse place or home improvement warehouse of your choice and can reach each other from one corner to the farthest corner (diagonally), you will probably have good use of them on most of your ship. If they won't work from corner to corner of a store like that, move one closer to the other until they do work. Make sure you have enough pallet rack in between to simulate the ship's walls and structure. Figure out how far apart they can be before they stop being useful. Then you'll probably have your answer about whether it makes sense to bring them. If it works fine at the warehouse store and you really want to know if or how they are going to work on a cruise ship, you should find a building or warehouse that has about 8 floors and lots of metal in between and have someone on the first floor try to reach someone on the 8th floor. If you can do it easily, you will have no problem almost anywhere on the cruise ship to almost anywhere else on the ship. We had inexpensive Motorola's and they work fine at our local Home Depot and worked most of the places on the Carnival Pride. They did not work well when one was in the MDR (aft) and the other was in our cabin near the bridge on Deck 8 (forward). Other than that, they worked well enough when we needed them to. hb5

alexney Posted June 2, 2010 Author #5 Share Posted June 2, 2010 Good idea to try them out at a Home Depot. Thanks! We have walkie talkies that are high quality and we could bring those. I just thought the kids might like the ChatNow ones better. Either way, the ChatNows will be useful at camp. Thanks again!
