pappy3393 Posted February 3, 2005 #1 Share Posted February 3, 2005 Every year you hear about helicopter accidents. What is the track record of operators in Alaska? Where can you find safety statistics? Should I be concerned?
42trvl Posted February 3, 2005 #2 Share Posted February 3, 2005 If only there was an easy answer to this. I myself am very nervous on smaller planes and helicopters:( . It would be interesting to see safety records for the different companies. We used Temsco last summer and found them to be an excellent operation. I guess you could also look at it another way - there was a plane crash yesterday at Teterboro airport near us - 11 people on board. The most seriously injured were in cars on the road the plane went across. Statistically, you're still safer in the air.
CEWayfarer Posted February 3, 2005 #3 Share Posted February 3, 2005 DH and I have discussed this as well... In almost every port, we'll be taking some kind of small plane or helicopter tour. I'm not that crazy about flying under the best of circumstances, but do it without hestitation. The alternative is to stay home and see Alaska and the rest of the world on TV, which I'm not going to do! Besides, I believe the Travel Gods (or: insert whatever Diety you choose) look out for the brave or stupid! Off we go...into the wild blue yonder!
