nanheath Posted February 11, 2005 #1 Share Posted February 11, 2005 Our trip on Rhapsody from Galveston this Sunday was supposed to include a stop at Grand Cayman; it has been changed to a port in Mexico. Does anyone know why?????
springtxbill Posted February 11, 2005 #2 Share Posted February 11, 2005 Due to hurricane damage mostly due to the loss of one of the two tender piers, GC is limiting the number of ships that arrive.
Jghendrick24 Posted February 13, 2005 #3 Share Posted February 13, 2005 We were here in January and there were two piers being used. The island, though, is still quite damaged from the hurricanes of last year. It was quite crowded when we were there....five ships!
Kimq Posted February 13, 2005 #4 Share Posted February 13, 2005 Our trip on Rhapsody from Galveston this Sunday was supposed to include a stop at Grand Cayman; it has been changed to a port in Mexico. Does anyone know why????? I am on Rhapsody in two weeks and have been trying to find out if we will be in Grand Cayman or Casa Maya. How did you find out you were not going to GC? I know you will have a great cruise regaurdless. Thanks for the info. Kim Q
ernie16 Posted February 13, 2005 #5 Share Posted February 13, 2005 The schedule is located at www.caymanport.com But i guess it depends on conditions as reviewed by the Captain of your ship. If there is wind and rough seas they wont use the tenders, not to mention the hurricane damage. Good luck.
Toto2Kansas Posted February 13, 2005 #6 Share Posted February 13, 2005 It also may have something to do with damages to the pier in GC and how many ships were sheduled to stop there that day. If there are too many, some could possibly be deverted to other ports. Enjoy your cruise!
dc-snoopy Posted February 13, 2005 #7 Share Posted February 13, 2005 Yes, we were told that due to the rebuilding of GC since the hurricanes that they were limiting the number of tourists that could come through. So four large ships is about the limit (we estimate somewhere around 9-10K people). Many, but not all, ships have been diverted away from GC.
