We are looking at booking a cruise on the Mariner of The Seas leaving Galveston 3/11/12.

We will be traveling with 4 kids and 4 other adults. Is there good things for children to do aboard this ship that we as parents cn be involved with. Ages are 10 to 12 yrs old.

We have been on 2 other cruises both with CCL and want to be sure there is plenty for supervised children to do. Thanks for your inf.

The Adventure Ocean program for kids on RCI ships gets very good reviews from both kids and parents. When you then add the facilities that Mariner offers kids and grownups alike (Ice rink, rock wall, video arcade, Johnny Rockets, parades in the Royal Promenade etc.) I think your 10 and 12 year olds will be thrilled with Mariner and you will have plenty of family time as well as adult only time to enjoy your cruise.:)

The 12 y/o would be in the teen program...on our last RCL cruise the teen program was non-existent and the teens roamed the ship, just an FYI.

Thais exactly what I don't want. We will plan our activities accordingly. Kids are fun on a cruise but like some adults.... Should not be left unsupervised!

According to RCI, kids in the12-14 age group do have an organized program that includes:"Digital Scavenger Hunts, arcade challenges, and rock climbing activities during the day and movies and pool parties at night". Sounds like the program would fit your requirements. :)

We are thinking that spring break in TX is 3/12 in 2012. Looks like CCL thinks that as well. Price is near double RCCL and the following week RCCL is very high. I hope we have guessed right. If not then the kids will miss a week of school.

Mariner also has a basketball court. The teens and tweens get their own daily compass with activities and schedules delivered to the room too. And there are parents all around from what I noticed when we watched our son play basketball. Very safe as far as we were concerned, but our son is 17...he also got in later than we did every night! We really loved the Mariner - going again in Nov and again out of Galveston next year!

Also - the teens have their own hang out, Fuel, but can't remember the ages to be in there...if not many kids then they will expand ages. So if you have Fuel available for 15 to 17 year olds, and it is off season (during school) then they may change it to 11 to 17. They did this on our cruise in May. You will have a great time on Mariner!!
