Our third port: Alesund, Norway

We arrived in to this port in the early morning. It was cloudy and looked like rain but it soon cleared and the sun came out. It quickly soared to reach a beautiful 72 degrees.

The ship pulls in to port right near the centre of town. It is very easy to walk the streets and local vendors set up booths and tents to attract the tourists. It is very expensive, a Nordic sweater on sale will cost around 600 krs=$100 U.S. Dollars. A local stand was selling a lunch deal, a hamburger and drink for $100 krs=$16 U.S. Dollars. We used the Norwegian krown which you can purchase on the ship. Beware the ship charges you a $3.50 service fee .

Giske and Godoy Island Excursion

Our excursion was changed at the last moment due to a funeral at a local church we were to visit on the Isle of Giske, so please note this in my review.

The bus toured through the city and stopped at the local church in Alesund. We stopped briefly to look inside and around the church. We travelled through the city to a lookout point for a photo shoot of our ship and the area. A beautiful view, our stop left plenty of time for pictures or a chance to snatch a coffee.

We then travelled through a series of three tunnels under water to the Island of Godoy. There is a short hike to a lighthouse. The views were magnificent and the island was very pretty. We stopped here for close to an hour. Refreshments were served and we had plenty of time to walk the coastline and relax.

We then boarded the bus to travel through a tunnel to the Island of Giske. We stayed on the bus and travelled around the small island. Originally the tour included a visit to the 12th church and burial grounds but it was not possible due to a funeral here.

We again travelled back to the ship and ended our cruise. The trip was very interesting and at a very sedate pace. It was disappointing not to visit the old church but in this case not the tour companies fault or the cruise line.

I would rate this excursion at 3/5
