Lisbon - organized tour vs "on your own"?

Recommended Posts

Do you have suggestions for a Sintra tour guide?

SINTRA is very much wakable and duable on your own (half day or whole day).

You can get there by public bus (and the hyperlink shows your options for the local bus up to Pena or other areas once in Sintra) or train from Lisbon and the cost is very reasonable too.

We used a local company to do a day tour (twice) pre-cruise and Sintra was included each time. You may want to contact them directly and check for a quote for a 1/2 day tour customized that does Sintra only if the other options are not of interest to you (meaning the tours available on their website). Details for the POC and our own experience below:

Regarding the previous post, you can also get to Sintra by using the train (they run about every 30 minutes) from Lisbon. Once in Sintra you should stop at the tourist office, get all the local info, and then you can easily see this World Heritage town on your own. My only caveat would be that if you have major mobility problems you might want to book a tour since Sintra does involve a substantial amount of walking.

I posted a question for lambs2 on the main NCL board. Her response:

Sorry about that! I posted it several other places and must have forgotten that thread. The tour company's website is insidelisbon.com. We had a slightly shortened tour day in Lisbon and the company did a great job getting us to all the highlights of Lisbon plus time in Sintra and a complete tour of the gorgeous Pena Palace where our cruise ship did not even offer a tour when we were in Lisbon!

We were there last year and used them for our guide. They were very good and I do recommend them highly.
