Richard in Panama Posted September 5, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 5, 2010 Hi all! Since a lot of folks have lots of questions about Panama Canal Cruises I've started a blog just focusing on the Panama Canal and cruising to Panama and transiting the Canal. I'm just back from the 2010 World Cruise on DAWN PRINCESS where I did the lectures and bridge commentary going through the Canal. There is lots of work now visible from locks on both ends as they are moving dirt around for construction of the new locks. We're coming up on the 100th Anniversary of the Canal - 2014 - and the completion of the new sets of locks - 2015 - so there is lots of interest in the Canal and Panama Canal Cruises. The 2010 DAWN PRINCESS World Cruise was interesting because we got to go through BOTH Suez and Panama. traceygirl Posted September 27, 2010 #2 Share Posted September 27, 2010 We are going on a partial transit cruise the end of Dec with the Island Princess. There are excursions in Gunion lake. How does this work with the partial transit? Will there be time to do the Gunion lake excursion without missing anything on the partial transit? Richard in Panama Posted October 4, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted October 4, 2010 Traceygirl - Check the Panama Canal thread and you'll find lots of discussion about this. Typically on partial transits the ship goes through Gatun Locks, tenders people going on tour ashore, then goes back through Gatun Locks and meets tour people that afternoon in Colon. The trip back through the locks is exactly the same, so it's best to get off the ship, take a tour and see some of Panama.
