Bus vs Taxi

Anybody ever taken a bus in Cozumel? Someone had mentioned a bus on another thread and I was thinking maybe taking the bus from the Carnival pier to Mr Sanchos to save on taxi fare. I've ridden a bus in Cancun before so I guess it wouldn't be much different. Anybody have any info? Are there buses near the pier?

Check out this website; not sure there is a bus route that will take you where you want to go, but maybe this will be helpful. We will be there in a couple of weeks and were hoping to take a bus (not the party bus) to the "wild" (east) side of the island. As it turns out, that is not an option and we are trying to figure out how to go about this. We only want to spend a few hours in the morning there so that we will have the afternoon in San Miguel.....we love walking around downtown. There is a little restaurant/bar with wonderful margaritas that we always manage to find, even though we don't know the name of it!

As I understand it, the buses or collectivos are primarily used by the locals and don't service the tourist areas. You can hire a cab to take you around the island. Negotiate a price before you get in.

The little restaurant/bar you mention may be Wet Wendy's. Great margaritas and cold beer. ☺ ☺

Thanks for the info. Looks kinda scary, huh? Guess we'll stick with the Taxi. Just trying to save a little dinero while experiencing some Mexican culture. Maybe not sure a good idea???

Nothing scary on Cozumel except the motor scooters. :)

Excellent idea to take a trip to the east side (Wild side because of rough surf, lots of iron shore (rocky) and no electricity.) All the beach bars on the Wild side use generators or bottled gas.

Rental cars are available and the island is easy to navigate. And get full insurance. But hire a cab especially if you want to have a few drinks. Negotiate the price before you get in.

Scary? Because the locals primarily use the bus? Not at all! We haven't taken the bus (yet!) in Cozumel, but have in Puerto Vallarta and Cancun. Always felt safe and found the people interesting. And their routes are usually somewhat off the beaten path, so the scenery can be interesting as well. The last time we were in PV, we took the bus about 20-30 miles (?) to a little seaside town called Sayulita. Walked around the town, to the beach, had a snack and beers and then returned via the bus. Bus fare was 40 pesos round trip! Less than 4 bucks! Our ship was in port into the evening, so we still had time to go downtown, do a little shopping, and sample some margs. If we have time, we hope to ride the bus in Cozumel to a less touristy part of the town and then walk back. Anyway, nothing to be scared of....just be aware and careful like you would in any US city!

BTW, tandemcruzr, unless they have changed their name, Wet Wendy's it is not. I do know it has more of a spanish type name.
