Want luxury hotel in LA for one night

I'm looking for a luxury hotel in LA or where ever would be most convienant for the night before our cruise on Diamond Princess ( March 2005) one that will get us to the pier the next day. We're actually flying into San diego and will spend a few days there first and then drive up to LA - I haven't figured out where I will take the rental back to yet - some hotels will let you drop it off at the hotel and they'll take it to the rental place. This is what I'm hoping? Any suggestions?

We booked through Hotwire and received the Westin LAX for two nights before our cruise...about sixty dollars per night. We took a Grand LA tour through Starline.com and had a wonderful day. We aren't tour people at all but this was efficient and cured me of any notion to return there for a week. We saw all I'd ever wanted to see.

 

Cab ride to Diamond Princess pier was $40. including tip. No traffic on Saturday!
