Best Beers/Rums in Caribbean?

We will be going to the S. Caribbean next month (!) and I was wondering if there were any recommendations for beer or rum tours/tastings or just great local beers and rums to try? The islands we are going to are San Juan, Dominica, Grenada, Bonaire, Aruba, and St. Thomas, but I'd love to hear anything anyone has to share on any island! Thanks!

Aruba and Bonair are Dutch territories so Amstel and Heineken are the beers of choice there. Try Carib beer if you can find it. I believe they have a brewery on Grenada.

:)while in the Dutch ABC islands, try amstel "bright" a carib. version brewed there! yummy!:)

Amstel Bright is by far the BEST beer i have ever had!!!!!

Beer - Medalla D'Oro in PR is OK, but like Spurscorner, I'd go with Carib. Seems like it's pretty widely available.

 

I'm not a rum expert, but I like the Appleton VX (Jamaica), and the Mt. Gay Eclipse (Barbados). I haven't had many different types, but look forward to trying more!

We got to drink some 'Leon in Costa Maya.

Guinness Foreign Extra is worth the effort.

Tortola had Mackeson's XXX, which was a wonderful find.

i'd vote for Mount Gay rum - the rum that invented rum!
