seaside resort near messina

We are calling at Messina , sicily and would like to have a beach day if possible . Someone we met on a previous cruise recommended Mondella , but they were docked at Palermo , and caught local bus for a few euros . Is this possible from Messina , or are there any other beaches near . If not can anyone recommend somewhere handy with lovely scenery , we want a change from history. There are only 2 of us. Any advice would be much appreciated .

There are beaches to the north of Messina, not far. To the south one needs to go further to find suitable beaches.
