Too Late for "Cancel for Any Reason"

Well I was unaware that there was a time limitation on buying this insurance. I booked my trip 3/25 and traveling 7/17. The problem that has arisen is that my father has become quite ill and now I'm in the market for "Cancel for Any Reason" insurance just in case it comes to a point that I must stay home.

Does anyone know of anyone that offers any past the 21 day limitation?

Or any other advice in regards to the situation?

I'm not sure if anyone offers travel insurance so close to day of embarkment. My personal experience, my father died the day before I was to leave on one of my cruises. I also did not take travel insurance. I called and cancelled my hotel accomadations the day before our cruise and the day we would arrive in Miami. I called up Carnival to explain that I woild not be getting on the ship the day of departure. I changed my flight plans. I couldn't get seats on any flight out of my originating departure city for the day that I could fly into Cozumel which was our 1st port of call. I had to fly out of Philadelphia, into Dallas, then into Cozumel. I had to rent a car and literally left my fathers funeral right after the gathering of the family for food after the cemetary. I also informed Carnival that I would be getting on the boat at our 1st port of call in Cozumel.

We were the first flight out of Philadelphia, thank god cause after us the fog rolled in and flight were either cancelled or delayed. We flew into Dallas, had a nice layover, then boarded a plane to Cozumel. When we got to Cozumel, we went to customs. They gave us a sheet of paper to give to the ship once we got on so they could give back to customs to prove we were getting on a boat. We got to security and they had a list of people getting on the boat that day and our names were on it. We showed our boarding passes and ID's. When we went to get on the boat, since we had no sail and sign card, they were suppose to escort us to Guest Relations but they let us go ourselves. When we got to guest relations, they treated us like kings and queen's. They sent flowers and a platter of food to our grand suite room and all we heard of was how sorry for my loss and they were happy that we were able to make it and they hoped I could enjoy my cruise considering the circumstances.

Did I enjoy the cruise. I don't know. My body was there and my mind wasn't. That was my first time staying in a grand suite. I walked around like a zoombie and never wore makeup and never got dressed up for Formal night. We actually missed our first formal night but had our second.

If I had travel insurance, I would have cancelled but since I didn't, it was a choice of going or loosing my money. I would not have gotten a refund from carnival. if you can get Travel insurance, i would try and if not, I how your situation is better then mine was. I hope your father's health improves.

No matter what else is said, that touched my heart. God bless you in your loss.

1) Depending on your cruise line, they may offer a Cancel For Any Reason clause in their standard policy that can be purchased up until Final Payment. The only "catch" which should not be a huge issue for you is that you get a Cruise Credit instead of cash.

2) Some policies (I believe Travelex is one) do not have pre-existing condition exclusions for non-traveling family members. Try calling one of the several insurance brokers often mentioned here for details.
