Dominica is the worst place so far for that. Last time we avoided them by walking the opposite way and round the back of the town. :eek:

I have thought about taking a private taxi to some of the beaches but was worried that we would be in a panic trying to get a cab to get back to the ship.

 

Is it easy to get taxi's to get back to the ships?

 

 

If you are worried ask for a beach near a hotel or bar then you can go to them and they'll ring a taxi for you.

Thanks for that - I have to say I'm tempted to do my own trip to the beach.

definitely DIY a beach trip

we had a people carrier for the 4 of us,little tour then dropped us to a lovely beach ( and the driver phoned ahead to his brother who rented out sunbeds etc on the beach !)

 

he then came back for us as arranged and we paid him when he dropped us back to the port :)

Now that sounds perfect.

 

there are only the 2 of us so might wait and see if we meet others on the cruise who'll want to do something similar.
