gargoyle999 Posted August 10, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 10, 2011 We will be visiting Ponta Delgada in Oct for a day and are going to do a tour of either Sete Cidades or Furnas. Any input on which we should chose for a first time visit to the island?
biaria Posted August 11, 2011 #2 Share Posted August 11, 2011 I'd say that's a hard choice! Maybe better combine the two, if you can.
BrenGina Posted August 13, 2011 #3 Share Posted August 13, 2011 If you have time, go to both. Sete Cidades is a very quick visit at the overlook, which is stunning, and takes about 1 1/2 hours (travel time) R/T from Ponta Delgada. However, Furnas has much more to see, spread over a larger area, especially where the food is cooked at the lake. Here is a nice website to look over: http://www.expatislandguide.com/expat_set.htm If you can only do one, I'd go to Furnas :)
gargoyle999 Posted August 23, 2011 Author #4 Share Posted August 23, 2011 Thanks for the replies. We will only be in port from 10a-6p so I don't think we will have time for lunch. Plus DW wants to try the food that is cooked in the ground so it looks like we will be going to Furnas. If anyone has a recommendation on a good place to eat in Furnas please let me know! :)
PBungay Posted August 27, 2011 #5 Share Posted August 27, 2011 Might I suggest renting a car? Great driving, wonderful views and people, and you can easily do both. There's an agency just as you walk out of the port area (Avis I think) - got a mid size for $35USD for the day.
