cjm66 Posted November 9, 2011 #2 Share Posted November 9, 2011 Cruise ships use Port Chalmers for ships calling into Dunedin as the port of call and run shuttles from the wharf into the town itself. Try this link for more information: http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/ShowTopic-g255119-i2118-k3055478-Cruise_Terminal-Dunedin_South_Island.html There is a train line from the port. It is used on cruise ship days for the ships tour that takes passengers on the Taileri Gorge train ride. Colleen
kuldalai Posted November 9, 2011 #3 Share Posted November 9, 2011 To answer the initial question specifically . NO local train service between the Port and Dunedin . However if you book the Trieri Gorge railway trip as a Ships Excursion then the train departs from the wharf alongside the ship . If your excursion is just the rail trip the train will return right to the wharf . If your excursion is trieri gorge & Otago Peninsula, Lanarch Castle (NOT actually a castle !!!) then you alight from the train at Dunedin station on return from the Trieri Gorge and then by bus to return to shipside by coach .
