Liquor on cruise

We received our cruise instructions and they state that you can bring wine with you for special occasions. How about a bottle of liquor? I read they "hold" bottles purchased in ports, but do they actually check your suitcase?

Your luggage goes through x-ray machines just like at the airport.I know security personnel and they sure have some good stories! :) I've seen some walk on with a bottle stashed in a shopping bag with no problems. If they do take it you'll get it back after the cruise.

If you purchase in the shops "recommended" by the cruise line or in the onboard store (very cheap prices, btw) they hold it until the end of the cruise. You can bring your own wine for dinner, but they charge a corkage fee. We always brought a couple of bottles on board for before-dinner "drinkies" in the room with no problems, and also bought lots of rum in the grocery stores (for about a third of the cost in the approved stores) in the Caribbean and brought it on board, but I'm not sure how much they've tightened up with all the new security.
