Does anyone have any information on Schettino's previous employment?

Research thus far indicates Costa ships (and very many others from other cruise lines especially those owned by Carnival) have been involved in a number of incidents such as groundings, fires etc and more significantly a serious near miss in the English Channel where Costa Atlantica very nearly collided with another vessel. I would like to see if he was involved in any of these. Unfortunately MAIB's reports do not name names.
