Where to eat near El San Juan Hotel Resort and Casino

We just got back from San Juan and stayed 3 nights pre-cruise at the Intercontinental. We ate a Dinner and breakfast at La Playita, step out to the beach from the El San Juan, turn right and go to the end of the beach. Across the street you will see the sign, enter and go all the way to the back. Food was fantastic and the view can't be beat. We also ate at Mi Casita, which is in the strip mall directly across from the Intercontinental, food was very good and very reasonable. We did try dinner at Metropol, which is highly recommended on these boards and thought it was just ok.

Hope this helps,

Jim

There is also a Chili's right in the area of your Hotel across the street.

The beach access from the Intercontinental was closed at night so I would think that is must be for a reason. Although we walked on the street at night in front of the Hotel, I'm not sure I would walk on the beach as it would be pretty dark. I would say use common sense in an area that your not familiar with.

We stayed at the Intercontinental hotel last month for three days pre-cruise. One of the nights we ate at a Mexican restaurant called Lupi's, right by the El San Juan hotel. We thought it was good food, moderately priced. We also ate at Chili's across the street from the hotels.

After researching this restaurant, is it safe at night to walk the beach area? Does the beach area access from hotels remain open?

While we walked to the La Playita from the Intercontinental while it was still light, we came back in the dark around 9:30 or so. We did not feel any reason to worry and enjoyed listening to the music coming from each of the hotels as we walked by. Access to the Intercontinental as well as all other hotels along the way didn't seem to be a problem as they all have beach bars with people coming in and out, there was no problem getting back to the Intercontinental at all.
