Balos Lagoon - Has anyone every been?

We will be in Chania from 9:30am-6pm. Has anyone ever gone to Balos lagoon from here? If so, what do you recommend on how to get there? Is it better just to stay in town?

Hi! Not sure if you will get this reply as your post was from April...I am right now trying to decide between the safari jeep tour up in the mountains and a boat trip to Balos Lagoon so your post caught my eye.

You have to get to this town that starts with a K (so sorry, can't remember) and take a boat ride to the lagoon. The boat leaves at 10 am and comes back at 6 pm and the boat sounds nice with food and a bar etc. gives you a kind of tour too, stops at another place first which takes 45 min, stays there for 2 hrs i think and then on to Balos, staying there 3 hours. The pictures just looks SO incredible but my mom really wants to go on the jeep thing which gets great reviews so....just need MORE time in Crete! :) Google "day trips or boat trips to Balos Lagoon" and you'll get at least three companies....
