RCCL Excursion Spanish Bay Resort???

Has anyone been on this excursion. The description reads that it is 5 hours long and includes lunch, with a cost of $85/pp

So, is it worth it, or would we be better off at the Hyatt.

One more thing...RCCL used to offer an excursion to Rum Point. I take it this went away after the Ferry was damaged by Ivan?

Thanks!

We did this in May 2004, and will be doing it again next week. Super friendly staff, great drinks and food (all you can eat and drink), not crowded when we were there. The snorkeling is also good, but that is because the entry and surrounding waters are rocky. There is a sand beach, plenty of shade, chairs, hammocks, beautiful pool. The entry into the water is a little difficult because of the rocks, so wear aqua socks. Here is a web site: http://www.caymanresortsonline.com/spanishbay/Home.htm

Hope this helps. Red

We went to Spanish Bay on April 14th and LOVED it. We arrived around 9:30a.m. and were met at the door by the hostess, who showed us to lounge area where they had mimosas ready for everyone and told us about the place. Once done there, we went out to the pool area and just fell in love with the place. The bartender Wayne made great drinks, lunch was super and the best part was the entire resort was just for 25-30 people MAX. No crowds, great service, kind staff. I just cannot say enough good things about this place.

They provide you with towels, have restrooms at both the pool and beach area, and again, it was great. We were only let down the next day when we arrived at the resort we booked in Cozumel - what a let down after such a great day at Spanish Bay. Hope this helps. And yes, we thought it was totally worth the $$. Bonnee

As promised. Before we departed on the bus, the tour operator said that, because of winds, the snorkeling was not as good as normal, but you could still snorkel. He offered a full refund for those that did not want to go. He fibbed about the snorkeling. Because of the winds, there was no snorkeling, unless all you wanted to see was your hand (IF you held it right up to your mask)! There also was limited swimming in the ocean-way too rough. The tour operator did refund a small portion of the fee because of this without any problem. The hotel is still not open-may not be for quite a while. The bar was as good as ever, as was the BBQ lunch. The hammocks are now strung in the pool area since the trees were destroyed by the hurricanes. The hammock ends are strung way too close together; made the hammocks unusable. The Jacuzzi was inoperative. It was more crowded than normal-maybe 70 people-but we still had plenty of room. Because we could not even swim due to the rough water, most of us left early. This tour is TOTALLY weather dependent. If the tour operator says conditions are not as good as normal, opt out and do something else. If the weather and wind conditions are good, you will enjoy yourself..

Can we book with Spanish Bay Resort directly, or only through RCCL? These posts are surely making this an appealing choice!

Ponder this: I was just thinking how fabulous it is that at right this very moment, how blessed to be in the position of having a tough time choosing between such wonderful opportunities! ;)

Before the hurricane, they wouldn't allow direct one-day pass bookings. I have read on another board that they now do. Be advised-the transportation cost alone may be more than the cost of the RCL booking. They are not answering their email; here is the web site-call them and see. Good luck!
