We took a Land Tour Offer Independently...

We visited Roatan on May 4th. A group of 6 of us were not sure what we wanted to do in this port, so we decided to just get off the ship and "explore". We ended up finding a "land tour" offer right outside of the ship and decided to go for it. It was $20 pp and this tour guide in an air conditioned van took us around the island. We stopped at a couple of ship wrecks, saw the Mayor's house, a couple of gift shops, saw where the kids went to school, the hospital, and saw where there was land for sale, where the orphanage/sponsorship was. It is a very beautiful island, but we were amazed how people lived here...it is so sad. We actually saw young girls as prostitutes! Our tour guide actually was bold enough to tell us we could send her things from USA if we wanted to...geeez! Our tour guide only worked when cruise ships came to the island, otherwise she stayed at home with her 7 children. The only time she enjoyed A/C was in the van when she was working.

We did enjoy our day and found it very interesting/informative. We were glad we didn't rent a scooter or car for the day here as people drive CRAZY.
