Walking Tour and Beach--which beach?

We are on RCI in March. We would like to take the walking tour of Falmouth (I know it's not pretty, but I would like to hear the history and see the buildings--also interested in seeing the real thing outside the Cruise Terminal safely). However, after that we would like to visit a nice, safe, clean beach. Is there a beach nearby that we could safely take a taxi to and ensure pickup? I have read "Time n' Place", but don't know much about it. The taxi prices to Montego Bay look a little steep for just a beach afternoon. Is there anything closer? We are a mid 50s couple, no kids. Just looking for a nice place to relax, swim and read.
