Snorkeling in Mahahual

Hi there,

Just wondering if you can snorkel from the beach in Mahahual? My husband and I are looking for a nice relaxing day, maybe getting a massage...but would like to get a little snorkeling in if we can.

Thanks!

Great snorkeling in Mahahual area. Taxi from the port to the downtown beach and there are lots of walk-up boats all along that downtown malecon. They take you to a nearby reef, there are lots in the area, and keep you in the water for an hour or so. They run $20-$30 an hour and that includes all your snorkel equipment. Massage is about the same price and is also all over the downtown beach areas as well. If you have your own gear, the snorkeling at the north and south end of the malecon is better than in town. Less human activity so there is more marine life. North end of the malecon between the lighthouse and the pier and a taxi can drop you right there. On the south end, get in the water past the city pier and swim south away from town. The reef is a bit further out on the south side of town but it is calmer on windy days. Keyword search snorkel, massage, costa maya and mahahual and you'll get lots.
