CAS drink card question

My girlfriend racked up over 1600 points on our May 2012 cruise to Bermuda. The casino manager/host on the Dawn told her on the last evening that she could transfer the points over to another ship, and on her next cruise she would receive a casino drink card. Thought that was pretty sweet, well she called today and they do not transfer points from ship to ship for a drink card (new policy as of Sept. 27, 2012). Does this sound valid? Sounds shifty to me, of course 'no managers' are available every time she calls to inquire about the situation to find out what is going on. The casino manager/host on the Dawn flat out told us it would be no issue if we cruised within (i think he said 18 months). Thoughts? Thank you.

They transferred my points from my last cruise to my Epic cruise October 21st. I already had a drink card, though so I can't answer that piece of it. One lady we met though was told that the points for the drink card need to be earned on that particular cruise, so it is possible that there was a change in policy. It may be worth calling Casinos at Sea to book your next cruise. Even if they only offer 5% off, your drink card will be in your room the minute you arrive on board.

Hopefully someone with first hand experience will chime in.

Yes, CAS changed their policy. Points were transferrable (for a drink card) in August but were not on our October cruise. :( I think I saw just one drink card the entire 2 week cruise.

This was our experience as well, and DH was more than a little bit ticked. We were told the same as the OP on our last night on the Jewel in February, and weren't exactly pleased to discover that although our points were transferred they were essentially useless. It certainly didn't stop us from spending a lot of our time in the casino, and racking up a lot more points, which will transfer to our sailing in March and still be useless. Oh well.

Perhaps we'll accept the next offer that CAS sends in the mail, and book our next sailing that way. ;)

We just got off the GEM and sailed the GEM back in May - my husband was told that he could not use his points from the previous cruise. But he did rack up enough points to acquire another drink card during our 9 day turned 12 cruise during Hurricane Sandy. However, when he went to see what those points would do for him they told him he could get $50 some dollars to play in the slots or $180 off his total bill. We opted the $180 off the bill since the points do us no good to save anyway :D

The reason for transferring points is to hit the 2500 point level, which is worth $25 in cash-back on your account.

I'm absolutely surprised that you could EVER transfer 1500 points (or a portion thereof) and just have to top it up in order to get the drink card.

So it makes complete sense that they would close this loophole.

The rules say "Earn 1500 points THIS CRUISE" and get a drink card....not earn 500 points on each of your 3 cruises, to get a drink card.

They're trying to reward 'serious' vs. casual players.

But the OBC/seabucks credits, those are cumulative.

This makes me quite a bit happier, and I appreciate you're clearing it up for us Stephen. I must not have had enough coffee when I read the new rules, because it appeared to me that both sides of this offer had to be earned on the current cruise.

I totally agree that "serious" gamblers should be rewarded accordingly.

We too got wrapped up in this, we had sailed on the pearl in Feb, attained the drink card, and were told not to cash out as we were sailing on the sun in Feb.

I had spoke to CAS in Sept, and they assured me, our points would transfer and the drink card would be given early on the sun sailing...

When we tried to get the drink card, we were informed the program had changed and that we had to start over!!

Thanks for nothing CAS! We never did get to the 1500 points...and this was an 11 day sailing, hubby was not impressed!

As a CAS member and platinum NCL cruiser, I'm sorry to see that they've changed the policy. It would seem like the goodwill they'd earn by letting people accumulate points towards the drinks card would far outweigh the cost of the drinks when expressed in gambling $.

Does anyone know if you can still carry over points and have them apply (cumulatively) towards credits against your bill at the end of the cruise?

I'm mostly just curious; we always "cash out" all our points at the end of a cruise against the bill, but I wonder what the rules are now for people who do not earn enough points on one cruise to do that?

Tigerr55,

Please let me know what happens when you sail next week. I was told the same when I sailed the Dawn in July and expect to have a drink card on my next cruise next July with the points I have earned.

I am hoping they will honor the points for you on your cruise.

I can tell you they won't. Several of us have posted above, and related this experience from our very recent cruises. I regret to inform you that you will not have a drink card on your cruise next July, unless you earn 1500 new points in the casino, at which point you will get the card.

The points you transfer from your previous sailing will still be valid to use as SeaBucks, as explained by sjbdtz.

Sorry.

I just e-mailed them and the above is confirmed by their response.

I have about 2500 points currently. That I will have to use for something else I guess.

It is true that our policy has changed and points pulled forward cannot be used to obtain the drink card. The points are still valid however, the points that you have accrued can still be cashed in for free play at the tables or slots. Be sure to tell the host on day 1 that you have points on the Star and Jewel to pull over and they will do it right away. The hosts will be able to tell you how far away you are from the drink card whenever you ask. Based on your past play and with an 11 day cruise I’m sure you will make it before long.

Subject: Re: future cruise

I just read that when I go on my cruise in December that there is some sort of new policy that I will now not be able to use my prior points I earned for a drink card on my upcoming cruise. I was told below that I would be able to use my prior points for a drink card. Could you confirm what I can and cannot do?

Is there anything you can do to help me?

Thanks

Dan
