We have smart phones will we be able to use the Internet in port with them or will we need to go to a place with Internet connection.

International data rates would apply, if you're talking about foreign ports. Some carriers have int'l data plans that you can sign up for prior to your cruise, then cancel when you return.

Which cell phone carrier are you with?

You can check with them for international data plans and rates - it's not cheap.

 

Be aware of the usage - any email downloaded to your phone, apps that automatically update, "push" notifications, etc., would be data at int'l rates.

Puerto Rico and USVI are domestic. Pretty much all others require international. You can connect wifi through the ship but that is expensive to.
