Where does HAL dock in Bergen, Oslo?

When you were on HAL in Noway, where did you dock in Bergen and Oslo?

Trying to plan excursions in those ports and it would be very helpful to learn where HAL docked when you were aboard.

Perhaps I can discern a pattern, while realizing things can, and often do, change. Any information will be helpful,

Thank you.

Ted,

On our previous stops in Bergen and Oslo we have been docked within walking distance to the center of town. Both times we were docked in the main harbors.

Don't know if this is of any help?!

Thanks, Liz, that's just what we were hoping for - fairly close to town. there have been times on HAL when we've been docked in vast container ports that weren't exactly scenic!

We leave for Boston six weeks from today - staying one night before boarding.

See ya soon.

The last time we were at one of the main harbors -- close to the open market -- and within walking distance of city center. As I remember the market is only open in the morning. At times the local merchants have provided a shuttle bus running to town which is nice for us with bad knees. There are many shops (some nice ones) to browse in on the route while walking and very close to the ship. Of course like all of Europe, there are "no bargains" and most things can be bought cheaper in the U.S. I still do find some beautiful sweaters but living in FL. that isn't very practical for us.

In Bergen, the ship docks about ½ mile from the bryggn or the center of town. This is where most of the tourist shops are located and adjacent to the open air market. Also, it is very short walk behind the main shops to the funicular which takes you up the mountain to a spectacular view of the harbor.

If you plan on visiting the home of Edvard Grieg while in Bergen, you will have to take a bus or taxi.

In Oslo, the ship docks about ¼ mile from City Hall and the downtown area. It is in easy walking distance to the Storting ( the seat of government ), the Royal Palace and the War Memorial Museum.

At the official port website, you can find your ship call and see if anyone else will be in port that day: http://www.ohv.oslo.no/ You can make a similar check of all of the ports you plan to visit--some ports even note the quay or pier where your ship is scheduled to berth.

For Oslo, this site is helpful, too. http://www.oslocruise.com/ Of course, all you have to do is put "Oslo tourism" or "Oslo cruise" or similar words into your favorite search engine, and you will pull up a lot of info.

Have a wonderful cruise. We will be onboard the ms Rotterdam when she calls in Oslo on July 9!

Thanks to everyone for the useful information. It's a big help in planning shore excursions. There's always so much to see and do and so little time.

Hope you all have interesting cruises to look forward to. (I know Liz does.)
