Anyone go on Mt. Gay Rum tour. Is their a charge to get in? Also Pelican Village right near the Rum factory, is supposed to be an artisan area....also, hows Brighton Beach which the Mt. Gay Rum restaurant is supposed to overlook?

Is it within walking distance of the Port?

Thinking of going to that area, but heard very little about it and can't find a mention on this board.

Thanks for any info....be there April 20th.

Hi Chuck,

see http://www.mountgay.com/index2.html for info on Mount Gay Rum. There is something on the tour but unfortunately it doesn't say how much it is. I can't remember the cost but it is probably worth it.

Pelican Village is a shopping area but mostly with local art and crafts. It would be nicer if some of the artist actually did their craft right there, but they don't always.

both places are within walking distance of the port and Brighton Beach is just across from Mount Gay, so you can go to Pelican Village. Stroll around. Head over for the Mount Gay tour, have lunch and then go to the beach. Weisers By the Sea ( a beach Bar/Restaurant) is within easy walking distance from Mount Gay, so you could go there and spend the afternoon.

Enjoy.

Sunniebgi,

Thank you very much for your informative reply!

Couldn't find much on Mount Gay Rum and surrounding sites, you helped emmencely and answered my question about distance from the ship dock for some of the places we wanted to see leisurely as this is the last stop on our island intense itinerary.

TheBEST to YOU!!!

The Mount Gay tour is $10 USD per person and lasts about 45 mins. First tour is 9.30am and final at 3.30pm.

As you exit the terminal just walk about 200m to the south and there is the Craft Centre with the colorful shops. You can't miss it.

Before leaving the Craft Centre simply ask any local to direct you to Mount Gay Distillery or Brandons Beach on the Spring Garden H'way. They will gladly tell you

As you come out of the exit, if you walk out along the coast (south) just a couple of minutes (you'll see the sea on your right), you'll come to an intersection with traffic lights on your left. The Pelican Village starts there and it actually spreads out a bit. Mostly crafts and they do have a Cigar Factory there. The Mount Gay Rum distillary is the other way (north) - about a 20 minute walk.

Mount Gay Rum tour was more passive with a video but still worth it because they are the oldest rum refunery in the world and it's not very expensive. DId that and the Agapey Chocolate factory tour - $15 and well worth it, get to see vintage chocolate machinery, history on chocolate, tasting chocolate and various sugars. There is also the Kensington Oval on the way and the Atlantis Submarine.

Take a map. THe streets are not north and south. The google map is good and there is an excellent map on the Agapey site. http://www.agapey.com/bridgetownbarbadoscruisetips.html
