Eboracum_d Posted February 24, 2013 #2 Share Posted February 24, 2013 Unless walking is a problem, all three places are probably best explored on foot. For Cork boat is likely to berth at Cobh. There is a railway station alongside from where you can travel to the City Centre -- it's about half an hour. The Tourist Office has a leaflet for a self guided city tour leaflet. For Dublin, the ship or port is likely to offer you a Shuttle Bus, problsy into the main shopping street. Again there are self guided walking tours available take in the Castle and Trinity College on that side of the river and O. Connell Street, Jamesons Brewery and the Cstom House on the other. In Edinburgh you will berthat Leith where the (retired) Royal Yacht Britannia cab be viewed. You will then need either a bus or taxi to the Royal Mile which goes from Holyrood Palace to Edinburgh Castle. It's well worth stopping at Camera Obscura (on your right hand sed as you walk toward the Castle) which will provide a 20 minute birds eye introduction to the City. If you are keen on Georgian Architecture you can take in the so - called New Town as well as enjoying the Shopping along Princess Street. Culture vultures can take in the Scottish National Art Galleries spread over three sites the National Gallery, thevModern and the Portrait Gallery. Rbel4 Posted February 24, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted February 24, 2013 Thanks for your comments about these destinations being walkable. However, in Cork we were wanting to see the Rock of Cashel, The Vee and Lismore. In Dublin, we were wanting to see Powerscourt Estate and Waterfall. Princess has bus tours of these locations. However, we were looking for private tours with fewer people.

Dublin Bus is the state owned bus company for the city. Although the website states that it runs on Saturday and Sunday, if you click on 'Buy Now' it appears to operate every day in the summer months. This is my belief, as I used regularly see the tour bus stop in Dun Laoghaire, during the summer, to pick up passengers. Dermot
