blue_water Posted May 2, 2013 #26 Share Posted May 2, 2013 Very well put Rick, we love the people of Tortola, they really are wonderful. Occasionally while staying there we'll see cruisers act very rude and obnoxious toward the locals and they really make us feel embarassed for their actions. Glad you enjoyed your stay at Maria's. We last stayed at the Heritage Inn atop Windy Hill (where the Bananakeet Restaurant is). the rooms are a little worn and dated, but they're super clean and the staff there (Chris, Bonkie, and Cheryl) are so down to earth, can't wait to return. Thanks!
Rare skittl1321 Posted May 10, 2013 #27 Share Posted May 10, 2013 What beach did you go to in STT? We went to Secret Harbor. We had wanted to go to Sapphire, but our taxi driver told us no. I think half because he picked up someone else and they wanted to go to SH, but then, he told us Sapphire was too windy. Later in the day, more people showed up at Secret Harbor and told us they had left Sapphire because the conditions weren't good- so the taxi driver was right. It was a nice beach, very calm and serene, very few people. I mostly slept on the beach, but the boys snorkeled, and the restaraunt was good. blue_water Posted June 11, 2013 #29 Share Posted June 11, 2013 CGB = Cane Garden Bay which is a larger bay thst's home to 6 beach bars/restaurants. For food, drink, chairs, restrooms, and snorkeling Brewer's Bay is your best choice. Taxi fare to CGB or BB each way is $24 for one person, $12pp for 2, and $8pp for 3 or more. blue_water Posted June 13, 2013 #31 Share Posted June 13, 2013 Both 20 - 30 min. If you take the ship excursion to CGB you'll be delivered in a 25-passenger safari-type truck along with several other trucks (and a crowd of cruisers). They will all line up to take the folks back to the ship who went there on the cruise ship excursion. If you take your own taxi just ask the driver to return at a set time or you can just grab a taxi that's there when you're ready. You won't have a problem finding a taxi when you want to leave. You may find a taxi that's loading up for Brewer's, if not you'll take your own taxi and ask them to return to pick you up, they're good about that. The beach bar can also call a taxi if you don't have a driver return.
Warrior64 Posted June 13, 2013 #32 Share Posted June 13, 2013 I have been on 5 cruises and Tortola is my favorite port so far!!! We took a taxi to brewers bay and spent the day there. Fun taxi ride, driver was awesome and pointed out different things to us. For brewers bay, all I can say is amazing. Beautiful beach and the best snorkeling I have seen!! sunnydaygirl Posted June 25, 2013 #33 Share Posted June 25, 2013 We didn't end up spending a long time in Tortola. A nice walk, a little shopping, and then back on board. Overcast and rain threatened. Great spice shop! Bought a few things at colorful market. Had . We liked beach break in Antigua, but ended up a drinking party because of rain and no sun! blue_water Posted June 25, 2013 #34 Share Posted June 25, 2013 Sorry the weather didn't cooperate, that's not nice at all! And hopefully next visit to Tortola you'll be able to see more of the island and enjoy yourself a bit more.

blue_water Posted January 29, 2014 #36 Share Posted January 29, 2014 This is the Tortola forum. But we're also in Belize next week and we're taking the tender into port then a water taxi to Caye caulker to enjoy a few hours at the bars there. Or you can find other ideas on the Belize forum... near the beach Posted April 3, 2014 #37 Share Posted April 3, 2014 In Tortola there is almost nothing right off of the ship. You will have a lot of walking to get somewhere. It seems the best excursions from there are to other nearby islands. In Antigua there are many stores and a casino right off of the ship.
