Celebration refit November

Hi, could someone confirm that when celebration docks in Portsmouth on 15th November it's off for a refit? It's my local port but after it arrives in Portsmouth it doesn't have another cruise for 4 weeks, so guessing a refit?

The celebration is going platinum on May6th, when most of the refit should be done. I suspect a time in dock in november would be for engine work etc.

Yes indeed, it finishes on November 15th in Portsmouth and remerges on December 20th in Tenerife, quite a distance apart. I would of thought some sort of cruise to get to and from the refit or engine repair would of been scheuduled in? As mentioned shame no cruise from Portsmouth would of been convinent.

Well it would seem very late to add a cruise although you never know. Just a bit bizzare it remerges so far away without a connecting cruise. A ship sailing around empty means no money! Perhaps someone more in know will fill us in with a simple explanation.

According to the Captain, it is just a regular part of its maintenace checks. Over the course of 5 years, it would undergo these checks twice.

 

The Captain held a Q&A session onboard the Celebration for the cruise beginning 4th April. One of the questions asked was about these checks in dry dock. That was the Captain's answer.

The run down to Tenerife from the dockyard (Hamburg?) will be the shake-down run to test everything. Isn't this what Dream did last year when it sailed to Lisbon?

yep, this makes a lot of sense.....probably conducting proper sea trials after the refit and not loading up with cruisers straight after (like they did with the dream hamburg 2010 debacle) and, portsmouth may not suffer from the (ship crunching) freezing weather that hamburg does in december
