Kelv_2013 Posted May 27, 2013 #1 Share Posted May 27, 2013 Our ship, the Liberty of the Seas calls at La Spezia (31st July) and we (family of four) would like to visit Florence. We have already booked private tours for other ports and this time we are just wanting something a little more simple (and less costly). I am a wheelchair user, so we have to factor that in, but we are wondering if anyone has experience of making their own taxi arrangements from the port of La Spezia into Florence and back? RRCL offer a "Florence on your Own" excursion but its a whole 10 hours, including transfers and we were looking for something shorter because we have full tour days planned before and after the La Spezia call. If anyone has any ideas or advice I would be very pleased to hear. On a more general note, when we sailed a couple of years ago on the Ventura, P&O provided shuttle buses from the ship to the nearest town. Does RCCL do the same or are you on your own once you step off the ship?
hazeleyez3 Posted May 27, 2013 #2 Share Posted May 27, 2013 There was a free shuttle from the debarkation area to the area where guides would pick you up. Unfortunately, I can't help with the other part because we chose to do a private tour and not taxi.
Danish Posted May 27, 2013 #3 Share Posted May 27, 2013 Please note, that there are a long distance btw. La Spezia and Florenze. You will need at least 2 hours transportation in each direction. So if you have 4-5 hours for transportation, how much time do you want to spent on the location? It would be difficult to do Florenze in less than 8-9 hours - and most of the time you will on the road. I would suggest, that you instead goes to Pisa - not so long distance, and you do not have to spent more than a couple of hours to see te town. Cinque Terre is very beautifuel, but unfortunately not easy for a wheelchair. In La Spezia there will be a shuttlebus, which will take you from the ship to the end of the habour (not the City center). The same in Civitavecciha.
