Ketchican Shore Excursion Suggestions (High Activity Level) - Teens

We were in Ketchikan a couple of weeks ago with our two active 14 y/o kids, but didn't plan an excursion ahead of time and didn't want to spend a lot of money there. We ended up doing the hike at Deer Mtn, which was very beautiful and quite a workout. The trail head is fairly close to town, but up a steep road, so we took a taxi there which turned out to be well worth it since the hike is very steep over the 1st mile (1000+ ft elevation gain), but the eventual views are great. We ended up doing ~2 miles up before we had to turn around to make it back to the ship on time, but definitely enjoyed this free activity, plus we got some great exercise at the same time.

We have just returned from our first trip to Alaska. We took the Bering Sea Crab Tour and it was GREAT. Besides the interesting tour itself, we saw LOTS of wildlife--pod of orca, tons of eagles in flight, seals, leaping salmon, and at no extra charge!! Just a tip, sit on top deck for best view!
