Breakaway questions for my upcoming cruise

We will be sailing soon on 6/23/13 and have some questions. Which shows are free and are these the shows with a charge Cirque Dreams, dysfunctional reunion, PJ Jam?

Can you still book shows in advance for a 6/23/13 sailing? If not how and when do you book? When you book is it an assigned seat or you can show up early a get the seat of your choice?

Is there self-serve soft ice cream or frozen yogurt? When and where can you get it?

Where is the best place for shade on deck?

Did you find a difference between the MDR, Taste and Savor? Which one has the shortest waiting times, we tend to eat before 7:00 PM?

About how many Blackjack table are there? What are the table minimums? Is it easy to get a seat at a blackjack table? Is the casino closed when docked in Bermuda? Does it pay to join the Casinos At Sea Players Club? Can anyone explain the promotional chips for table games?

If we wanted to spend a day at the beach which beach do you recommend? What would be the best way to get there for a group of 4? How expensive are the taxis?

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences on this site!

We will be sailing soon on 6/23/13 and have some questions.

Which shows are free and are these the shows with a charge Cirque Dreams, dysfunctional reunion, PJ Jam?

Rock of Ages, Second City and Burn the Floor are free. Cirque Dreams, Dysfunktional Family and Pajama Jam there is a charge for those.

Can you still book shows in advance for a 6/23/13 sailing? If not how and when do you book?

Yes, you can book 45 days before your sailing. Some restaurants and shows might already be booked up. Go to your MyNCL.com and sign in and go to your vacation planner to make reservations.

When you book is it an assigned seat or you can show up early a get the seat of your choice?

Everything is first come first serve. If you want a great seat show up early. I showed up about 15 minutes before Rock of Ages and got a pretty good seat.

Is there self-serve soft ice cream or frozen yogurt? When and where can you get it?

The Garden Cafe (buffet) has self serve ice cream. Also in the garden cafe you will find hard scooped ice cream. I didn't see any kind of frozen yogurt.

You can get the ice cream during lunch and dinner, and as a late night snack until the buffet closes around 9:30pm.

Where is the best place for shade on deck?

The main pool deck underneath the overhang of the upper deck.

Did you find a difference between the MDR, Taste and Savor?

The Manhattan Room has live music and shortened Burn the Floor Shows. Taste and Savor are the same except decor and Savor opens at 5:00pm and Taste and Manhattan Room open at 5:30pm.

All the menus are the same except the Manhattan Room has two slight variations on the Everyday Favorite's menu. It has a different type of steak and the pasta dishes are penne pasta with different sauces, while Taste and Savor have spaghetti with different sauces.

Which one has the shortest waiting times, we tend to eat before 7:00 PM?

On my sailing everything had some long waits. I would try Savor/Taste before going to the Manhattan Room to see how long the wait times are.

About how many Blackjack table are there? What are the table minimums? Is it easy to get a seat at a blackjack table?

Sorry, I can't answer that.

Is the casino closed when docked in Bermuda?

Yes, the casino and shops are all closed while in Bermuda.

Does it pay to join the Casinos At Sea Players Club? Can anyone explain the promotional chips for table games?

Sorry, can't help there either.

If we wanted to spend a day at the beach which beach do you recommend?

I went to Horseshoe Bay Beach and thought it was great, they have beach chair and umbrella rentals, along with food and restrooms. The beach can get crowded. You can head over to the Bermuda Ports of Call and read all about peoples beach suggestions.

What would be the best way to get there for a group of 4? How expensive are the taxis?

I took the bus, it's a cheap way to get around the island. If you don't want to buy a bus pass, you can buy tokens and it's $8 per person to Horseshoe roundtrip.

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences on this site!

I answered your questions above.

How long did it take to get there by bus? Do you know how much a taxi for 4 people would cost?

It was about a half hour on the bus. I didn't look at taxi rates, you might find that on the Bermuda ports of Call forum.

We went to Snokle Park beach which is an easy 10 minute walk from the ship. It's not as big or as beautiful as Horseshoe Bay beach, but it still made for a very nice day at the beach.

It's only $5 to use the beach, and there are umbrellas and chairs for rental. The beach attendants were super accommodating, too.

There is a really nice restroom facility and outdoor restaurant. We had lunch which we enjoyed very much.

Taxi to Horseshoe $28 each way for four people. The bus is your best bet.Bring a collapsible cooler,go to the Dockyard pharmacy and buy your beer, soda and snacks. Its only a few minutes walk from the ship. You will save a bunch of money.

THX HighVoltage#9,

Can you take any food off the ship for a lunch at the beach?

I read somewhere there is an "express Bus" from the pier to horseshoe beach. Do you know where I find that bus and the times it goes and returns to the beach?

What would be the cost per person on the bus?

You should check out the Roll Call for this sailing: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1548622

There are some links on that roll call for all the beaches and things to do in Bermuda (post #61). It also discusses the public transportation system and the ferry/bus passes (post #218). It offers much information. Please check it out! We are also planning a meet & greet. Come stop by our link!
