Queen Mary Snooze and Cruise

I have been looking for info on staying the night before our 1/20 departure. One of the ideas that had some appeal (we are history buffs) was the option of staying on the Queen Mary. The added inducement of parking included was enough for me to inquire. This is the information I received;

The rate for that night starts at $149 for an interior cabin with two twin sized beds, interior cabins do not have any windows. This rate includes the 4 day parking of $17 a night, the total coming out to 175.37 for the entire stay plus parking. Based on the room type, rates do increase in price, but $149 is the starting rate.

Hi there, We are cruising out of Long Beach in Feb and we ended up getting a night at the Westin across from the convention center for $179 (no shuttle). The Hotel Maya was $254 but had a free shuttle. Both rates include one night stay and parking for the duration of the cruise (7 days). We will have to grab a cab to/from the port, but it's only a mile away so no big deal. We can check out all the bars etc.. at the Pike within a short walk from the Westin, so we are pretty excited to get the fun going as soon as we check in the night before. We are driving out from Phoenix. Just thought you would like the info. Have a great Cruise!

You may want to check the Maya again. It was in the $200's when the code didn't apply. However, it's now $119 for the garden-view rooms. If you don't see that rate online, call and book with the hotel directly under the Carnival rate, which includes 7 days of parking.

 

For February, this rate is currently unavailable on 2/1 and 2/5-2/8. The $119/night is available up until the end of April at this point. The rate was $125 a couple days ago. I called and had my rate adjusted to $119.

I would recommend just taking the tour of the Queen Mary and not staying aboard. The cabins are tiny, and not at all sound proof. Lots of noise, and way overpriced for what you get.

Not much of a deal as it turns out...

 

$149 for the QM is not that bad. Staying on the Queen Mary is a very special experience. DW and I stayed there years ago and in addition to the uniqueness of staying in an ocean liners stateroom as it was 70 years ago, as a QM hotel guest, you are allowed access to many parts of the ship which are not allowed to the general public. In addition to all the museum stuff, just walking around the promenade deck and standing underneath the life boats is 'Titanic-esque'.

 

And, you can't get any closer to the embarkation station for Carnival. No need to worry about transportation to the dock.

But The Maya, also nearby, was 119 for the room and the parking and I am pretty sure that while lacking the quaint quotient of the QM, will be very comfortable.

 

For the $60.00 extra bucks we can have a nice drink in the QM bar and enjoy exploring the parts that are open to the public ; -)
