port of miami parking convenience

What is procedure for port of Miami parking? Leaving on Liberty 1/11/14. Husband had recent lung surgery so is still kind of weak. Want to make it as easy as possible for him. Will we drop off luggage then park? Is the parking close by? Is there handicapped parking closer than regular? We have a handicapped parking permit and realize there is now a charge unless vehicle has lift, etc. It has been over 5yrs since we sailed from Miami. Would appreciate any input.
