Love Jack's Shack! You can print off a coupon from his Web site for a free run shot of their local rum! Don't forget to do that... and.. they have Free WI-FI! That's all we do when we go there now... yes - sometimes stop at Margarittaville if we get docked before other ships.. lounge at the pool for an hour or two (until we get thirsty!) before heading to Jacks. Our first time at Grand Turk - we rented a Jeep and drove up to the Light house - the other end of the Island - walked around up there... (really cheap cold beers up there ) and drove back .. (our daughter drove us back... cause we drank some beer) .. but driving on the 'other side' of the road was fun to do ... at least once.! Now that we have done that... all we do - is Margaritaville pool and then Jack's shack. You can go back to ship for lunch if you want to save money - but you can get enough to snack on at Jack's for not too pricey. His drinks are less than at Margville! :):) Jack and his wife are really really really nice people, and his dog is totally fun and friendly.

The beach north of the pier is sandy. Everything south of the pier is sand and rock.

In red is Jack's shack. This is where you will find beach, very sandy, along with free beach chairs (some in shade if desired) and reasonable drinks.

Green arrow is where snorkeling excursions and water activites are sometimes held.

What you circled in red is not Jack's Shack. Jack's Shark is much further down the beach. It is about a 10-15 minute walk from Margaritaville. I'm not sure what exactly you have circled in red. I think that image is a little outdated as I do not believe I see the pirate ship casino.

I just read a review on here recently, and this family found Governors Beach.

This beach was BREATHTAKING!!!!!!

They said if you leave Jack's Shack, in the front, not from the beach, go left and you walk down the road a mile, you cannot miss it.

No chairs or facilities, but it was BEAUTIFUL.

They were the only ones there.

Enjoy!!!!!

We'll be there in July and may just have to check it out.:D:D

Is governors beach within walking distance from the ship??

In this photo I took (yeah, right), it shows the pier. MargeritaVille is in Yellow. It has a very nice pool and bar, along with food ($$$$). Pool is free. As an excursion, you can do the FlowRider. A standup surf rider. Google it if you don't understand.

We did a snorkeling excursion that picked us up just south of the pier and took us just north up the beach. Snorkeled off the edge of the wall (deeper water) and then took us closer to the beach in about 15 ft. of water and showed us nurse sharks. Got to pet them and hold them.

curious as to what tour company you used for this excursion?

  • 3 weeks later...

I was at Grand Turk on April 4, 2014 (aboard the MSC Divina, 2nd annual Moody Blues Cruise aka the floating rock festival). We went to the beach that's right across from the ship dock. We did encounter plenty of coral underwater, but it didn't bother us at all. Perhaps we got lucky and missed all the sharp edges, or perhaps they've all been worn away.

As others have said, the beach chairs are free, and it's $20 to rent a clamshell shade that accommodates 2 chairs. You go to the little shack in the middle of the beach, pay your money, and they give you a flag on a pole. Once you've chosen your chairs, you put up your flag, and the guy comes and sets up the shade for you.

Restrooms are on the landward side of Margaritaville. On the way, we found an outdoor faucet designated for washing the sand off your feet.

We only stayed a couple of hours; then went back to the ship for a late lunch at the buffet.
