Walking in Noumea from Cruise Terminal to Lemon Bay

We will be on a Carnival Cruise in a couple of weeks. On our cruise last year, we took the Tchoo Tchoo Train Shore Excursion and loved it. This year, we were thinking of doing our own thing and going to the beach at Lemon Bay. I've looked on Google Maps and it says it's only 3.4 kms from the Cruise Terminal to Lemon Bay which is certainly walkable. My question is - has anyone done this? Are there footpaths to walk on all the way? And do you think it's safe for 3 women to walk it? (I've just been reading that some folk have felt intimidated in Noumea??)

My friend and I walked it last August - we found it fine :-) I used google maps on my iPhone and just followed the route it took us, through some small streets, but we felt safe the whole way. Plenty of locals smiling and waving at us too :-)

You can walk it. I have done it myself but you need to catch the transfer bus first to the cruise terminal which is on your way
