SPKR Posted August 30, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 30, 2014 Princess tours sold out as of now and we are a group of three needing a tour of military monuments. Don't want to just leave the ship and look for a cab. Arrive at 7:00 and leave at 2:00 so not there long. Suggestions welcome. Suzie
someotherguy Posted August 31, 2014 #2 Share Posted August 31, 2014 Use a guide if you can find one. If not, here's my experience. I rented a car from downtown Naha to get to these sites (I was not on a cruise). Himeyuri and the Peace Park are quite a way away and in a very rural area. But the Navy HQ, which I found the most interesting, is not far and you could probably do that with a taxi (you'll need a map or description of the destination in Japanese, and some Yen). Navy HQ location here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=26.1862254,127.6765113 I believe the cruise port is just NE of the airport, where route 331 crosses the river. General info on the war sites here: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e7105.html
SPKR Posted August 31, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted August 31, 2014 If Princess doesn't open up more tours, I will use your advice to at least try to do the navy headquarters.
Canadagirl13 Posted September 19, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 19, 2014 We, too, will be on Diamond Princess Oct. 19 and have been able to book all but one of our excursions. We are so disappointed that Princess hasn't opened up more spots. Okinawa only has about 4 choices and the one we want has only 40 spots. Does anyone have any experience with Princess' excursions? We were told there is a waiting list with 40 names on it and they weren't willing to start another one. Are we going to be out of luck in Okinawa?
