scotto1970 Posted September 9, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 9, 2014 A bit confused, don't know what option is best to select. Taken from express pass. For Non-US Issued MasterCard or Visa Cardholders: If you use a MasterCard or Visa Card issued outside of the United States and one which is billed to any of the following currencies: AUD, CAD, CHF, DKK, EUR, GHP, HKD, JPY, MXP, NOK, SEK, the full amount of the charge will be converted to the currency of the card by our conversion agent at the exchange rate in effect at the time the amounts are charged to your account, and a currency conversion charge will be billed to your account. If you opt out of using our conversion agent, the issuer of your card may still charge you a service fee for your currency conversion. Choice of currency is final. Currency Conversion Authorization - please check one of the following options: I choose to pay my onboard charges in the currency of my card, i.e., I choose to use Celebrity Cruises currency conversion program and agree to the terms below. This currency conversion transaction is based on wholesale exchange rates collected from Bloomberg plus a 3% international currency conversion fee. My choice to have charges billed in the currency of my card is final. I accept that the exchange rate used will be the rate in effect at the time the amounts are charged to my card without further consultation. I choose to have my credit card issuer convert my onboard charges to the currency of my card in lieu of participating in the Celebrity Cruises currency conversion program. If I opt for my charges to be converted by my credit card issuer, or if my card is not billed in one of the billing currencies listed, my charges will be processed in the onboard currency (USD) and the issuer of my card may charge a service fee for currency conversion. Sloop-JohnB Posted September 9, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 9, 2014 (edited) Hi Scotto1970, I see you are new here... Welcome to Cruise Critic and to the Celebrity Board. The choice is yours to make. Option # 1 means that Celebrity does the Exchange for you and your Credit Card is processed in the Currency that your card is issued in Option # 2 means that Celebrity charges your Credit Card in US Funds, and the Credit Card Co does the exchange... And often will also charge you a foreign transaction fee as well. Generally speaking, we as Canadians have found Celebrity's Rates to be favorable... So we use Option # 1 when we book our cruise --- --- --- Your CC Profile doesn't give your location info... helpful if you fill that in... When it comes to Questions where country / citizenship can make a difference In this instance for example... If you are Canadian, I would recommend that you get a Cdn Bank issued Credit Card in US Currency... As it is very handy for travelling to the USA & abroad. We use ours for the onboard portion of our cruise as the Ship's Accounts are all done in US Currency. Know that other Cruisers who are not Americans (UK, Australia etc) often buy OBC (on board credit) when rates are favourable for their currencies thru the Cruise Line, so they can settle their Ship Account in cash. Hopefully others will comment additionally so you'll get more of a perspective on what might be the most advantageous for you (especially so if you fill in your CC Locator) Cheers! Project_gal Posted September 9, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 9, 2014 Sloop-JohnB's response is almost invariably correct but, to be certain, you should check the rate charged by your credit card to do the conversion.
scotto1970 Posted September 9, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted September 9, 2014 Thanks for your advice, think I may go with option 2 as my credit card will charge 2.75%.
