I am not sure how you want to gauge cost vs convenience, but another option is to drive to Riverside (should not be that much traffic) and then take the metrolink train to downtown LA. You can then use the blue line train to get to long beach then cab it to the port. Or once you get to Union Station downtown arrange for a shuttle for the rest of the way. It would be cheaper, but gosh, not sure about using trains with luggage.
