Forts, Old San Juan and Rain Forest

We would like to see all 3 of these but don't know how long we need. We plan on flying in 2 days before boarding our cruise. I'm not sure if we'd get there with anytime left to tour the first day. We would have the whole next day and maybe after the cruise if needed. We have 8 in our group including one senior. Should we take some tour or rent a van or what? Is walking the forts and Old San Juan doable or too much walking? What are the hikes in the rain forest like for a senior?

Depending on what time you get into San Juan on your flight.... I would suggest going in and exploring Old San Juan even if it is just wandering around. The forts close around 6:00 pm but you can still see some very cool things in the old city. If it were me I would take a taxi from the hotel to San Cristobal, and then wander around in it then depending on how mobile you group is.... either take the free trolley over to El Morro (or walk there about a half mile) Each fort has its own unique features San Cristobal is more pristine and detailed.... El Morro is huge and the views are spectacular. Then ride the trolley around the city a time or two to see things. You can get off and on at a number of stops. I love to walk down through the city from El Morro. I think the buildings and the cobblestone streets are fantastic. As far as El Yunque... I think renting a Van or two is the best option, driving there is pretty easy especially with a GPS device. There are some great things to see even from the car and or parking lots. Also some fairly easy mostly flat paved trails to walk on. Enjoy your time there. IF you are interested I have written 2 reviews (in my signature) about the Victory that both include the forts and trips to the rain forest. Lots of pics etc.
