Pre- Cruise Hotels

My girlfriend and I looking into taking the Carnival Liberty 12 Day Grand Mediterranean cruise in September 2006 out of Rome, Italy. We are

wanting to do a 2 day pre-cruise stay and will be booking through Carnival.

They can not give us the name of the hotel until about 30 days before traveling.

I was wondering if anyone could give me some input on this subject before I booked it.

You can get nice hotels in Rome for much less than the Carnival price, select your own location and make the reservation whenever you're ready. There's a Hotels in Rome thread in the Europe section that has some good suggestions. Some of the travel website and tour books also have good suggestions for all budgets.

We stayed at the Visconti Place for our Aug.1st pre Liberty cruise stay. We booked through Carnival. It was a little pricey but very nice. It was nice to have the air, transfers and hotel all taken care of for us. I think Carnival also uses the Cicerone and a hotel chain near the airport. The Visconti was near the Vatican and walking distance to most of the sights in Rome.
