Luggage Storage in New York??

We are staying in Newark New Jersey after our cruise for a few days so we can see New York. Cannot afford to stay in the city so we will be travelling from New Jersey but on the day we disembark we do not want to go all the way back to the hotel to drop your luggage and then back to the city again. Is there anywhere where we can store our luggage for the day and visit New York? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Happy Cruising!
