Kcheine Posted June 28, 2016 #1 Share Posted June 28, 2016 Wondering if anyone can suggest good excursions in San Juan, Grand Turk, St. Kitts, and St. Maarten. My 15 yr. old son is in a wheelchair and we also have a folding stroller for him. Would love a hotel with pool possibly. Might just walk around Grand Turk since I heard there is a beach and Margaritaville right at the Port. Any suggestions would be appreciated! vickila Posted July 2, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 2, 2016 Grand Turk. Mostly flat, but beach is rocky and not accessible to get very close. Nice pool area with tables up higher in restaurant area to listen to DJ and host to such things as "wet t shirt contest", etc. lots of laughs. Pool is large but wading height only. The Margaritaville area is accessible and lots of stores. Outside of gated area one can rent a golf cart ( 1 step like a van) to maneuver the island...not much there but fun! St. Martin. Some accessible taxis ...goggle. You may enjoy the airport by staying in the car as they fly over low. French side just a flea market and not great accessibility. At the port, going out the gate to the right (out of parking lot), make a left and follow sidewalk, about 3/4 mile..flat, curb access. At parking lot, follow to beach Boardwalk, also flat. Some restaurants, shops, and close to water. Or if can lift stroller...water taxi to this area is on left at the port walkway. Well signed., brings you to same spot as above pathway. St. Kitts. Hotel in St. Kitts. 10 minutes away, pool, Hilton. Enjoy. Sent from my iPad using Forums
raindropsalways Posted July 5, 2016 #3 Share Posted July 5, 2016 St. Kitts does have limited curb cutouts, but they are not the best and some were not at the corners. We managed to get around town without riding in the streets by really paying attention to what was where. San Juan is fairly easy to get around. You will have to look for the curb cutouts. Fort de San Cristóbal is fairly easy to get to from the ship. Fort San Felipe del Morro might be too far for a standard wheelchair; long hike if someone is pushing. We did find one block that only had one curb cutout and rode in the street to get pass it. The problem would be the inclines. Virtually, everything is up hill from the ship. The ticket agent at de San Cristobal did give us the free pass for the disabled. Have a wonderful cruise, Betty
