Byron Glacier or Matanuska for DYI trip in Anchorage

Either way is a good choice. If you do the Matanuska Glacier, you'll get the best experience using a guide, like MICA or Nova.

If you do Byron, there's a lot of other great stops in the Portage/Girdwood area, like the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center or the tram at Alyeska. You could also include going through the tunnel and doing some of the Portage Pass trail. http://akstafford.blogspot.com/2016/07/portage-pass-trail-to-portage-glacier.html
