Budget Car Rental at CA cruise port

Hi.

I'm fairly new to CC but I've searched on here and can't quite find my answer. We're a group of 7 so taking a cab isn't feasible.

We've spent a week in St Thomas and so we know what it's like to drive there and use the car barge to STJ.

 

Our hope is to drive around STT and use the car barge to STJ from about 8 am-4:30ish. We'd stop at a few places to snorkel, walk beaches, hike.. no set agenda, we're flexible and can easily go with the flow.

Cruise is NCL Escape from 8am-6pm on 10/10/17

 

But my question is has anyone rented a car through Budget with pick up right at the dock? If so I'd love feedback.

Were they punctual? Was it fairly easy? I know traffic will increase with ships in port but is it unbearable? Is there anything we should watch out for, shouldn't do or should do?
