rosiebee Posted July 26, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 26, 2017 As part of our cruise leaving Sept 20th from Quebec, I'm really looking forward to cruising through the St L Seaway. Are we likely to see and whales or other wildlife at this time of year, or at any other point on our way to New York? Thanks for any replies. p_mori7 Posted July 31, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 31, 2017 Your ship will not cruise the Seaway. You will cruise on the St-Lawrence River (from Quebec towards the East). The seaway (series of locks & canals along the river at sections that are not navigable to large vessels) starts in Montreal and goes inland (westward) towards the Great Lakes. Whale watching on the St-Lawrence river is good up to October, best area is about 2-3 hours East of Quebec City in the St-Lawrence Estuary. Your ship may pass thru there during Evening or at Dusk, not really sure what your chances are at seeing them from the ship. If you want a really good feel for whale watching, suggest you drive out to Tadoussac before you go on the cruise. http://www.croisieresaml.com/en/plan-your-cruise/tadoussac/tout/ ~Phil. rosiebee Posted September 7, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted September 7, 2017 Thanks for information about the St Lawrence. I'll be taking my binoculars in hope of seeing a whale or two.
