Best time to board in NYC?

We aren't flying in - and we don't need to be on the ship right away. Is there a "better" time frame to avoid super long lines?

We went to the terminal last year around 10am and yes there were many people but we check in right away and then as soon as they started boarding we were on the ship few min after 12

This past April we got to the Gem around 10 am. Lines weren't bad and we were onboard by 11:30 am.

I found NY Port to be a bit of a madhouse the one time we have sailed from there, but I'm with the early crowd. We got there around 10am...checked in pretty quickly and were onboard not long after 11:30. Its just a bit disorganized compared to other ports I have sailed from. I"m sailing again next June but am trying Haven for first time so will see what that experience is like.
