Tender in Sorrento - Train to Pompeii...help

Hello,

 

We arrive in Sorrento at 8:00am...we anchor.

 

We are planing a tour to Pompeii and have 2 time options:

Meet tour rep at the Sorrento train station at: 9:20am or 10:20am

 

Question:

If the ship arrives at 8:00am, do we have to wait for Italian authorities to tender and clear the ship?

(This could make us late for the 9:20am tour)

 

How long does it take to tender to shore?

 

Is there a quick route up to town, I think I read about a elevator at a hotel to the top?

Or do you recommend a taxi to station?

 

We have always been able to get off early with the Oceania tours when we have a private tour scheduled.

Has that changed?

 

We would like to take the earlier tour if we had enough time to get to station by 9:20am, because it would give us another hour in Sorrento when we return to port.

 

But if you have experience with this port, please advise.

We arranged the tour to Pompeii for the 9:20am tour meeting at train station and they are letting the tour assistant know that if we do not make it on time we will be there for the 10:20am.

Just wanted to pass some information on to you, just in case. We had a tour of the Amalfi Coast scheduled for our stop in Sorrento a couple of years ago. The water was too rough to allow tendering. The Marina was diverted to Naples, with us arriving at 10. The concierge was able to reach the tour operator on his phone and made arrangements for them to meet us in Naples instead.
