Lewisinde Posted June 7, 2018 #1 Share Posted June 7, 2018 Our RC cruise ship will be docked in Riga from 11 am to 7 pm on a Friday. Due to the ship's size, we will not be at the dock closest to the old town, but rather at the KS terminal. This is a freight terminal about 12km from town. Supposedly, there is not much there including any taxis so I guess we will either take a ship excursion or taking the cruise ship shuttle bus to town and back. I would appreciate any suggestions on what to do, see, and where to eat in Riga.
DipBrat Posted June 8, 2018 #2 Share Posted June 8, 2018 If you have access to a phone you should still be able to call a taxi. That shouldn't be more than 10 Euros or so. I would be surprised if taxis won't wait for the boat. Old Town and surrounding Art Nouveau district is the usual highlight for Riga. Make sure to see the Art Nouveau quarter and not only Old Town. Lots of good restaurants. Better value and better overall outside of Old Town. The Beach area (Jurmala) is nice and lined with wooden houses and shopping. It is probably not much further than the city from your dock.
Eartha Kitten Posted June 8, 2018 #3 Share Posted June 8, 2018 Would love to hear good restaurant recommendations beyond the perennials on TA. Suggestions? Thanks.
DipBrat Posted June 11, 2018 #4 Share Posted June 11, 2018 Would love to hear good restaurant recommendations beyond the perennials on TA. Suggestions? Thanks. Not sure who the perennials are 3 Pavaru and Biblioteka #1 are very good for high end Latvian (ish) food. LIDO is cafeteria style Latvian dishes. They have dozens of locations around the city. Nice salad bar and a good way to try authentic food but not fine dining by any means. Another cuisine to try would be either Georgian or Uzbek. Best Uzbek is a bit out of the center but still a short taxi ride Uzbekistana. On the same street Alaverdi is Georgian and also has general Euroopean fare. If it is a nice day near the port (not yours) there are a few places with nice terraces overlooking boats and river. General European food but nice atmosphere. Area is Andreosta. Musu Terrace for example.
